This warm season grass, grows slowly in cool temperatures so is great to plant with spring flowers.  It is a clumping grass that spreads by rhizome. It has tiny flowers during late summer bloom and the dry seed heads look like oats. Host plant for 5 or more types of skipper moths.

Side-oats Grama Attracts: Birds, Butterflies, and provides nesting materials/structure for native bees. It is deer resistant.

And is a host plant for: Green Skipper butterfly, Dotted Skipper butterfly.
